Li An, whose English name is Ang Lee, is one of the top directors in the world today. He was born in Taiwan, China, on 23rd October 1954. In 1975 he graduated from college, and a few years later he went to the United States to continue his study. In 1983, when he was 29 years old, he received a Master’s Degree in Film Production at New York University.
In the past, he has made quite a few successful films, such as Ride with the Devil in 1991, The Wedding Banquet in 1993, The Ice Storm in 1997. His first English film was Sense and Sensibility, which came out in 1995. In 2000 he directed the popular Kungfu film Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. It made him famous throughout the world.
In 2005 Brokeback Mountain brought a new peak for his career. This film won him the 2006 Golden Globe Award for Best Director.
