It used to be thought that the grammar of spoken language mirrored the grammar of written language. But does it?
口语中的语法习惯往往是下意识自然表达，这一点和写作中的用法有很大差异。口语中组织语言和输出语言几乎同时发生，因此会大大限制语法的复杂性。此外，口语表达通常都处于互动状态下，这一点在语言结构上表现得非常明显。比如剑桥英语语料库中这段对话：
1）I was talking to somebody who was a vegetarian and they know I'm on this diet and that I've lost this weight and stuff and they said for them to go back to grease was what did them in.
2）Uh-huh. Well and our son can't eat grease period.
3）Oh.
4）He and grease just ...
5）Really?
6）
He can't eat grease. Yeah.
7）We don't fry meat. I do ... I like my egg fried in butter and that's what we had tonight. I had eggs and ham and anyway I fried it in 
butter and I like that really well and uh that doesn't seem to bother me so I don't know what ...
我们从这段对话中可以看到几个特征：
1）and, so, but等连接短句的连词使用频率比较高，短句自然使用得也比较频繁；
2）言语中习惯加个“尾巴”，比如第2、6句的period, Yeah；
3）经常夹杂一些带有口语特色的习语或模糊语，比如so I don't know what, and stuff；
4）经常会有省略（第4句）、重复或用uh之类的口头语停顿。
相对于书面语来说，口语交流过程中可以借助语音、语调、语速、表情、手势以及场景等作为辅助，所以在词汇、句式的使用上可以更加灵活。相反，书面语单纯依靠文字表达，并且有足够的时间组织语言，所以更加准确、完整。可以说两者在语法运用上存在着较大的差异，而且很多时候无法相互借鉴。
或者借助一些专业的英-英词典，有些词典在词条释义上会标注[formal] [informal] [spoken]等标识，以帮助学习者判断词汇的使用场景。所以英语老师要注意，学生从教材中学到的书面语法，并不能全面提高学生的口语表达，需要对两者加以区别并进行有针对性的练习。
